![]() ![]() I guess I'll just tear down the front and if I don't find anything, I'll dig into the rear axle. I've not used low for a few years, but seeing as how I have time to work on it, I thought I'd tear into it. Pushing in the clutch and letting it hook back up helps sometimes. It used to jump out on rough ground, now it jumps out when it feels like it, but mostly when power is required. It started jumping out once in a while, but really got bad when the brother in law drove it and rather than shifting to medium, just let it jump in and out. ![]() The problem, I believe, is just plain wear. I haven't had time to really scour the case, but the only numbers I found were 45481 which is cast into the housing. When this occurs would engaging the diff lock make one axle pull? Could you have an air pressure problem causing the axle to come out of low range? What is the default range if the truck doesn't have air pressure or does it stay in what ever range it was? Are there any identifying labels on the axle to help get some info? When the axle comes out of low range does it still pull from one axle or are you in neutral. There's a diff lock in addition to the shifter on each axle. Following the air lines there appears to be a shifter on each axle. Selection of gears was not an issue when the three speed was working. The truck starts with a D-21 Allis engine, the transmission is a 4 and 2 with the three speed rear axles. It's got the hocky puck suspension which doesn't amount to much. This is a put together truck so I have no idea how old this is. ![]() Do both differentials have the shifting mechanism or just the front one? This may seem like an arrogant question but are you sure the three speed isn't an auxiliary or part of the main and the shifter on the differential is actually the interaxle differential lock? Not trying to discredit you but trying to get a better idea of the setup. How old is this truck? I looked for some info as well and came up with nothing. Am I wrong in assuming that the problem could be in either axle? It looks like the rear axle must shift at some point as the front one does? Any input and a link to a parts diagram would be helpful. I haven't had any luck finding info on the net. Low range jumps out from time to time and I'd like to tear it down and repair it. I have an older tandem axle grain truck with a Eaton three speed air shift in the rear axles. ( logon | register )Įaton 3 speed Jump to page : 1 Now viewing page 1 ![]()
